Retreat Description

When was the last time you and your fellow church leaders had a chance to learn and grow together? The Faithful Shepherd: Persevering in Your Church and Ministry is a retreat from P&R Publishing, Harvey Cedars Bible Conference, and the Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals that covers important issues that every pastor and elder should consider in his labors. The 2017 retreat will address reaching out to and equipping women, college students, and young career people in the church. We’ll also look at suffering in pastoral ministry as well as issues with “celebrity pastors.”

Come to the retreat to learn from others in ministry (both speakers and fellow attendees), to find encouragement in your work, and to rest and get away. Harvey Cedars Bible Conference sits right on the bay, and the beach is just a short walk down the road. Ice cream socials each night make for a lively time of fellowship.

The retreat is open to men who are ministers, missionaries, chaplains, elders, deacons, and seminary students. Wives are also welcome to attend! In addition, we welco

me those who are considering the post of deacon or elder and would like to be better equipped in their calling.

Speaker Biographies

Aimee Byrd, an ordinary mom of three, lives in Martinsburg, West Virginia with her husband, Matt, and three children. Aside from that amazing gig, Aimee managed to make a fool of herself in martial arts training, survived college, dabbled in ceramics, owned a coffee shop (The Mudd Puddle), become a blogger, and does a little speaking on the side. Since her children's schedules have majorly cut into her social life, she has resorted to writing Housewife Theologian (P&R, 2013) and Theological Fitness (P&R, 2015), while keeping her blog alive and co-hosting a podcast with two no-name pastors.

Jon Nielson serves as ministry director for Christian Union at Princeton University. Previously, he served as the college pastor at College Church in Wheaton, Illinois, and as the director of training for the Charles Simeon Trust. He and his wife, Jeanne, have three daughters.

Todd Pruitt  grew up in Houston, Texas and served as a youth pastor and pastor in Southern Baptist churches until crossing Lake Geneva marking his 'journey' to becoming a Reformed Presbyterian. He married, then graduated from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and now has three children. He is privileged to serve as pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Carl Trueman is a speaker on the Mortification of Spin podcast, professor of Church History at Westminster Theological Seminary, and pastor of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church. He has an M.A. in Classics from the University of Cambridge and a Ph.D. in Church History from the University of Aberdeen. He has authored a number of books, including The Creedal Imperative and Luther on the Christian Life: Cross and Freedom.  He lives in Oreland, a suburb of Philadelphia, with his wife Catriona.
