Why Events

Reformation means standing against the spirit of the age, so pastors and church leaders must join together to encourage, equip, and embolden one another in the work of the Reformation. Most importantly, a society brings the Word of God and prayer to bear on the leaders themselves, strengthening them for the work of a faithful shepherd.

Reformation starts in your local church community. The Reformation Societies are the means to achieving the renewal of the Church, which is our Lord’s Bride. Furthermore, our Gospel is timeless in its message, relevance, and sufficiency for the building of Christ’s Church, the same yesterday, today, and forever. The Biblical standard of Gospel preaching, teaching and worship are embodied in the Solas of the Protestant Reformation and are now stated in the Cambridge Declaration of 1996. For in Scripture alone, we learn of a salvation that is by grace alone, received through faith alone, because of Christ alone, and in all this, to God be the Glory alone. Here We Stand, like-minded in His service and confident in His Work.

But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth. Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men corrupted in mind and disqualified regarding the faith. But they will not get very far, for their folly will be plain to all, as was that of those two men.

The man of God’s faithful obedience to preach the Word is not done in a vacuum. It is to be accomplished while he is in the midst of a culture which hates him, hates God, and hates the Word of God. Unfortunately, it is not just the fallen world which expresses such hatred.

One example illustrating society’s perspective of the universe’s self-existence is by Editor Jon Meacham of Newsweek. In responding to criticisms from evangelicals regarding the magazine’s December 15, 2008 cover story entitled The Religious Case for Gay Marriage, Meacham responded by stating, “No matter what one thinks about gay rights – for, against or somewhere in between – this conservative resort to biblical authority is the worst kind of fundamentalism. To argue that something is so because it is in the Bible is more than intellectually bankrupt – it is unserious and unworthy of the great Judeo-Christian tradition.”

What is the believer to do with the solemn charge from God which is found in 2 Timothy 4:1-2? “I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching” (2 Timothy 4:1-2 ESV).

The man of God finds himself well quipped by the Word of God. Within the immediate preceding context (2 Timothy 3:10-15), the apostle instructed Timothy about the importance of being completely faithful to the Word of God.
